Health care options boost City vision

Pilbara News - - News - Peter Long is the City of Karratha Mayor. Peter Long

Access to high-quality health care services is essential for regional communities, so it is encouraging to see two significant new medical facilities officially opened this month.

The Karratha Health Campus brings various child health and outpatient services together under one roof.

The central location enhances our ongoing efforts to activate the city centre and we hope the new facility provides opportunities to medical professionals to relocate to Karratha.

The council is also lobbying the Federal Government to do our best to obtain a MRI unit for the new hospital.

In Roebourne, the Mawarnkarra Health Service will manage the new Warawarni-Gu Maya Community Supported Home Dialysis facility. This will provide people with kidney disease more comfortable treatment closer to home.

This is a win for the Roebourne community.

In Wickham, the City has called for tenders for GPs to operate from the old clinic.

While health care is a State Government responsibility, council was very disappointed when the 360 Health and Community general practice closed its doors last year, so staff have been working hard to re-establish medical services in Wickham and we are optimistic a suitably qualified provider will put their hand up to fill this post.

There is also renewed interest in private medical services in Dampier.

Sonic Health have relocated and expanded, and there are new medical facilities coming to the shopping centre and near the new hospital.

The combination of all of these enhanced facilities and services will help attract people to Karratha and help us to achieve our vision of becoming Australia’s most liveable regional city.
