SOUTH Yunderup resident Robert Martin reckons he has complained to the Shire of Murray about the state of a section of Culeenup Road for about 25 years.

He claims the sides of the road are shrinking, rainwater floods back to properties on one side, there is no kerbing and no footpath.

But worst of all are the deep potholes on one stretch of the road.

Mr Martin said children had fallen off their bikes, his car was damaged and the road was an accident waiting to happen.

He claimed the road had not been touched for 25 years and the only benefit from paying his rates was the rubbish collection.

Mr Martin said every time it rained, the council just shoved some tar and metal into the potholes without removing the water.

“The holes cave in again in just a few days,’’ he said.

He said he had complained about the road about three times a year for the past 25 years.

Six or eight weeks ago, he took photos of the potholes to the council, but was told there was nobody available to hear his complaint.

“I was told the council would ring me back but they never have,’’ he said.

Shire of Murray chief executive Dean Unsworth said the western portion of Culeenup Road was on the design program this financial year with a view to construction being considered in the 2018-19 financial year.

He said the council would continue with maintenance on the road until the design and construction works were co-ordinated.

Mr Unsworth said residents were encouraged to report any work requests regarding the Shire of Murray road networks via the online portal on the Shire website or via telephone to enable operations staff to undertake the required maintenance activities.

Where additional information was required regarding the request, officers would liaise with the resident to obtain further information, he said.
