Life of active leisure
CONSISTENCY LEADS TO GOOD HEALTH
MURRAY resident, philanthropist and Murray Leisure Centre member Wilbur Graham has honoured his commitment to mind and body, enjoying his 2000th centre visit in more than six years of membership.
Shire President Maree Reid, centre members and staff gathered to commemorate his achievement at a morning tea at the centre.
Cr Reid said Mr Graham’s daily exercise regime saw the centre’s hydrotherapy pool ripple with splashes and waves at 6am each day.
“Since joining the centre in April 2011, to keep active and meet new people, Mr Graham has cemented his presence, becoming a centre gem loved by staff and fellow patrons,’’ she said.
Mr Graham’s positivity and charisma are further felt throughout the community through his volunteering efforts.
He has been a volunteer for more than 12 years, helping as a math tutor for pupils at Pinjarra Primary School through their EdConnect program.
Mr Graham swims daily to keep his body healthy and visits Pinjarra Primary School daily to keep his brain active and stay out of the nursing home.
His goal was to reach his 2000th visit by his 83rd birthday, which he celebrated on the same day as the morning tea.
Cr Reid said 2000 visits over six years was an almost perfect daily attendance record.
She said if keeping an active mind and body was the key to good health, longevity and maintaining a positive outlook on life, Mr Graham was a shining example and a true inspiration.
