A Bolt from the blue

COUNCILLOR David Bolt is the new Shire of Murray president.

Cr Bolt won over former Shire president Maree Reid.

Cr Steve Lee continues as deputy.

The position was also contested by Cr Brenda Beacham.

Cr Bolt (56) has a 50-year connection with South Yunderup, where he lives, and said he had seen Pinjarra grow from a few farms to a vibrant town.

He said he would look for a balance between community expectations and the environment

There would be a challenge to the council regarding unemployment and with the need to introduce new technology, he would ensure the younger community was not left behind.

He also planned to look after the aged.

“If we look after business and ratepayers, we will all grow together,’’ he said.

Unlike the City of Mandurah, in which residents vote for the mayor, Murray Shire councillors vote for their president.

Cr Reid and new councillors Geoff Black, Brad Cardilini, Douglas McLarty and Brenda Beacham were sworn in at last week’s council meeting.
