Sup­port cen­tre in Great chal­lenge

THE Great Race was on for stu­dents at Halls Head Col­lege Ed­u­ca­tion Sup­port Cen­tre last week when they em­barked on a phys­i­cal and ed­u­ca­tion chal­lenge.

The fourth Great Race, mod­elled on the TV real­ity show The Amaz­ing Race, kicked off at Keith Holmes Re­serve, with stu­dents from years 7 to 10 from the Ed­u­ca­tion Sup­port Cen­tre and the Halls Head Col­lege Big Pic­ture group solv­ing clues, nav­i­gat­ing ar­eas of the eastern fore­shore, in­ter­act­ing with lo­cal busi­nesses and per­form­ing phys­i­cal and men­tal chal­lenges.

The Great Race catered for the in­di­vid­ual needs of all stu­dents, al­low­ing ev­ery­one to be in­volved in an in­clu­sive team­build­ing event al­low­ing stu­dents to demon­strate lead­er­ship skills us­ing the school’s You Can Do It pro­gram of re­silience, con­fi­dence, or­gan­i­sa­tion, per­sis­tence and get­ting along.

Stu­dents were placed in teams and chal­lenged to com­plete a range of tasks in­cor­po­rat­ing aca­demic and phys­i­cal ac­tiv­i­ties, high­light­ing an aware­ness and in­ter­ac­tion with the com­mu­nity, land­marks and busi­ness.

Busi­nesses in­volved in sup­port­ing the event in­cluded Grill’d and Man­durah Se­niors and Com­mu­nity Cen­tre.
