Dandalup Brutus leads from front
DANDALUP Brutus led allthe-way to take out the final of the Chase (405m) at Greyhounds WA Mandurah on Friday.
The handy chaser from Corey White’s kennels took advantage of the rails alley to put his nose ahead at box rise before finishing strongly to secure the silverware.
After holding off a challenge from the runner-up Issue, which nipped at his heels in the early stages, Dandalup Brutus kicked away in the home straight to win comfortably by four lengths in 22.55.
The result followed on from Dandalup Brutus’s impressive heat victory, which surprised even his trainer, when he clocked a personal best time of 22.49 to enter the final as the fastest qualifier.
Dandalup Brutus is better known as a 500m dog and even though he had the benefit of box one in the trophy decider, White knew his greyhound needed a good start to capitalise.
“You can’t afford to miss it over the 400, they’re all sprinters, you have to jump otherwise you’ll get left behind,” White said.
