We already name-dropped Quill, the cute little white mouse, in our Sony conference write-up (p6), but her PS VR game, Moss, is so adorable it scurried into our Hot 50. In the intro, the pages of an ancient storybook flip open, then the camera swoops in and the illustrations spring to life. This fantasy adventure looks cute as hell. While this is in VR, you’re not looking through Quill’s eyes. Your viewpoint switches between top-down diorama perspectives and traditional third-person views, and you use the DualShock 4 to manipulate the environment to help Quill on her journey. The virtual reality twist comes from the sense of exploration, the puzzle solving, and the ways in which you interact with the game’s colourful environment. The DualShock 4 is motion sensitive, of course, and by using a PS Camera you can physically push and pull things within the world, and pick up and handle objects to solve puzzles. PS VR is getting a lot of quality shooters; let’s hope this high-calibre adventure inspires imitators too.
