DUALSHOCK, REAL CAR
Controlling a real NISMO GTR with a pad
before Gran Turismo Sport launched, Sony and Nismo gave Mardenborough the opportunity to do the two things he does best – playing games and driving cars – at the same time. Using a modified DualShock 4 to control a race-spec Nissan GTR in automatic gearing mode from a helicopter above Silverstone, he was able to log some competitive lap times – within a second of prior GT Academy finalists’ times when they competed at the circuit. “I can’t think up those kind of ideas when I’m daydreaming,” he says. “To be able to do that was mega.”
While Jann hovered above, this rig carried out his instructions to drive the car round Silverstone.
