IN their final games of 2010 the Under 6 Sharkies ensured that their undefeated record was not spoiled. The boys played against Kangaroos, Brothers and Edmonton Storm, and won all three games. Against Edmonton Darcy Turner palmed and weaved his way across the line twice with Kye ’the tank’ Durie scoring as well to result in a 12-0 win. Another 12-0 win against Kangaroos was made possible when Darcy continued his fine form to score twice again, and Ryan Hawking who was on fire this weekend added another 4 points to the board.
In the final game against Brothers, the Sharkies’ smallest men pulled together and proved that size is no indicator of heart. David Neller and Malackye Toby worked magic to make the breaks and gain meters to then set up the ever ferocious Tyson Osborne and first time try scorer Zac Kessler to result in a 8-0 win. Man of the Match Awards went to Tyson, David, Zac and Malackye and Coaches Awards went to Ryan, Darcy and Kye. The under 7s played two games against Brothers and Yarrabah. Against Brothers, Lafe Hatfield scored the only try and converted for the Sharkies. This final score for this game was 6-10. The Sharkies v Yarrabah game was tryless. Man of the match was Lafe Hatfield and coach’s award went to Jarvis Kessler. The under 8s played Brothers. Fletcher and Brayden tore the Brothers defence apart whenever they got the ball and scored 3 tries each. By the end of the 3rd quarter Mossman and Brothers were level at 7 tries each. Brothers scored the first try in the final quarter only to see Mossman hit back with a try of their own to Bronson. The next try to Brothers was what they thought would be a matchwinning try. In the dying minutes of the game Mossman scored again though Liam to tie the match at 9 tries all. Players like Heath, Charlie, Nick, Mason, Harry also need a mention with their great team play and commitment. Under 9s took on Brothers Blue and what a great game it was. The boys were all evenly matched and were try for try until the last quarter where a young speedster from Brothers put in 2 quick trys to take the match. Tom Walker was on fire with tackling everyone in his path followed by Locky Buzza who always gives 100% in every game. Kalepo, Joe and Billy put in some hard yards with Joe Tusa being rewarded as the only try scorer, scoring two magnificent full yard runs. Well done Joe. Nick Scomazzon was played fantastically with some great run ups earning him the man of the match this week. Well done Nick. In the Under 10s’ first game against Brothers Blue the Sharks pulled together and played as team to come out with a 12 - 6 win. Great tackling from both Xavian Pitt and Jerame Friday had the opposition running scared whilst Trazane CobbFischer ducked and weaved through the defensive line to score and Zachary Osborne busted through right on the try line to add another 4 points to the board. Successful conversions by Dharese Bowen and Cody Port cemented the win. Man of the Match Awards went to Jerame Friday and Trazane, with Coaches Awards for Xavian and William Brown. In the second game the Sharks continued their great run with a 4 all draw against Brothers White. Joel Bowen showed great improvement in his ball running and Riley Jenkins defensive play was outstanding. Tom Lingard helped secure valuable meters for the Sharks with Riley Bell’s quick thinking allowing him to secure a dropped ball and dash for a try in the final minutes of the game. The Man of the Match was Joel Bowen and Coaches Awards went to Riley Bell and Callum Mather. U11s took on Brothers Blue on Saturday and won the game 18-6. It was a great confidence win for the boys. Forwards Harry Goodman, Luke Pellegrinet, Aaron Dunwell and Sean Evans kept the team going forward with their hard straight running. Wayne Oui and Eddie Todd also deserve a special mention for their improvement, as do all boys who certainly picked up their efforts. Dean McCarthy’s ability to run the ball back as fullback was exciting and faultless, which earned him the Man of the Match Award for this week. Try scorers were Finn CameronDivine, Luke Pellegrinet and Angus Dickson. Conversions were done by Aaron Dunwell, Tully Cartwright and Wayne Oui. The under 12s continued on with their march to a top 2 spot on the ladder with a magnificent 26-6 win. With five players away on rep duty and two others players unavailable the local boys again showed the meaning of team spirit. The coach was very proud of the boys and was reluctant to single out any one player but Man of the Match performances from half back Harry Walker who was strong especially in defence and utility Dane Jenkins playing in the centres continuously took on players twice his size.
