Ju­nior net­ballers shine on court

THE Dou­glas Ju­nior Net­ball com­pe­ti­tion be­gan with the Dol­phins play­ing Moss­man Pri­mary.

All the girls played well and both of these teams showed good sports­man­ship through­out the game. Spe­cial thanks to Kirra Sin­gle­ton who vol­un­teered to play for Moss­man Pri­mary to make up the num­bers. Dol­phins play­ers Bon­nie and Kyah Francis put in great, solid games and for Moss­man Jaslyn Ch­ester­field and Krys­tal Secker stood out for their team. Fi­nal score Moss­man 6 def. the Dol­phins 1.

The Port Crocs played the T-Birds, the Crocs started off well with a 3 goal to 1 first quar­ter, Chloe Whyte in­ter­cepted well and Kalani Revel was ex­cel­lent through­out the game. The T-Birds were not to be out­done, at three-quar­ter time they were 2 goals down, Lana Bax­ter lead strongly in at­tack and gained a lot of pos­ses­sion of the ball and Cartier Ben­nett was able to keep the ball mov­ing to goal en­abling the team to shoot 4 goals in the last quar­ter to take the win 6-4.

In the un­der-12s, Dragons played the Saints who were missing their coach, thanks to Na­dine Lowen­stein for stand­ing in, and goal at­tack Mar­ley Cairns. In a low scor­ing game the Saints girls played great net­ball, Alysha Meal­ing was fan­tas­tic in de­fence and Mia Fer­rero was al­ways ready for the in­ter­cept. The Dragons who were friv­o­lous on the court man­aged to come away with the win, Tay­lor Durie gig­gled her way through the match but still played well when it counted and Liana Pel­le­grinet stood out as player of the match. Fi­nal score Dragons def. Saints 6-2.

Moss­man Pri­mary played Miallo Thun­der in a great game of net­ball with Miallo tak­ing the game 9-0. It was a great dis­play of sports­man­ship and all the girls played re­ally well this week, thanks to Moss­man for a great game. The Moss­man girls worked to­gether well and dis­played great spirit. Miallo also played well and it was great to see ev­ery­one en­joy­ing them­selves. Best play­ers for Moss­man Dakota Bowen and Bri­anna Fore­ham for Thun­der Jade Schuck and Saisha Scho­nen­berger. The Crocs played Moss­man High - no re­sults were handed in.

In Un­der 12-16s, Red Team played the Blue Team. The Red Team put in a great per­for­mance shoot­ing 6 goals to 1 by half time, thanks to Dakota Bowen for stand­ing in at the last minute and for Jess Ea­gle-Rowe play­ing at­tack when she nor­mally is de­fence or goal keeper. The Blue team put in a great game with sis­ters An­gela and Si­mone Pringle play­ing on the same side and putting in a great per­for­mance. Fi­nal score Red 9 def. Blue 4.

The Green Team played The Black Team in a hard con­tested match with a lot of play up and down the court not re­sult­ing in goals, Jess Ste­ley and Natalie Lit­tler put in great games for the Black Team and Emma Stievano and Rae Page were name best and fairest and play­ers choice for the Green Team. Fi­nal score Black 11 def. Green 6.

This Sun­day, Dou­glas Ju­nior Net­ball will host its an­nual Car­ni­val. More than 40 teams from as far as In­n­is­fail and Ather­ton will be com­pet­ing in age group from 10/Un­der to 16/Un­der. 12-16/Un­der will need to ar­rive by 7.30am for 8am start and the 10/Un­der will need to ar­rive by 8.50 for a 9.20 start.

There will be a full can­teen serv­ing break­fast, lunch, drinks and snacks through­out the day. Raf­fle tick­ets will be on sale and drawn at pre­sen­ta­tion. This is our ma­jor fundraiser for the year, we ap­pre­ci­ate all the sup­port from the com­mu­nity in help­ing this day be­ing a suc­cess.
