TURN up and tee off for the Mossman Lions Club’s big fundraiser this weekend at Mossman Golf Club.
The annual Mossman Lions Club Charity Golf Day aims to raise money for local organisations, including KIND and Meals on Wheels. Mossman Lions Club has a proud history of supporting residents of the former Douglas Shire that spans back to 1962.
Organise a team of four to take part in the four-ball ambrose for a fun day out and a chance to give back to the community.
Lions Club member Sally Reason said it would be the charity’s major fundraiser for 2010, along with a trivia night held earlier in the year.
“We try to raise funds for our local charities, our local people, and mainly we help out senior citizens and youth projects,” she said.
Those include a Mossman Bowls Club luncheon for seniors, a youth development competition, helping people with disabilities and putting on barbeques for individual fundraising projects.
“Our main goal is to help our local community through fundraising and through do things for people,” Ms Reason said. “Another thing we do every year is we go and clean up the cottages at Port Haven.
“It’s called the Mossman Lions Club but we have a range of projects for the whole of the original Douglas shire plus we help out for national emergencies but our focus is on the Port Douglas region.”
Ms Reason said she hoped past attendees would flock back to take part.
“It’s a fun day out for a good cause, you can meet new people and hopefully (it will) encourage people to join the Lions Club, we would love to get more people join.”
The club currently has 17 members in the Douglas region. Entry into Sunday’s event, which kicks off at noon, costs $25 per player and includes a barbeque lunch.
