Ask the tourism guru

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - TOURISM TALK -

Dear Tourism Guru, I have been coming to Port Douglas on holidays for the last 12 years and we invested in a unit some time ago. My unit does not have a pool. My question is where are my children supposed to swim and play while I relax, get some sun and read a book? In summer the beach is unsafe and in winter we get sandblasted with the windy days, it is ridiculous that Port does not have a public pool, like Cairns Esplanade or Airlie Beach. Fix up your act Port, when do we get a public pool?

Signed, Sand blasted swimmer.

Dear Sand blasted swimmer, Hey, I’m on your side. Can you believe the people of Port have been trying to get a pool for over 25 years. In fact probably from the time they filled in the rock pool which is now Rex Smeal Park. Apparently there were more stingers in the pool than out.Well there is light at the end of the tunnel, with the approval of the waterfront master plan and a commitment of money from council hopefully it will come to fruition. Sooner than later if it was me. Let’s hope the light at the end of that tunnel is not a train coming.

Signed, Tourism Guru.
