Twenty-four bowlers headed to west Cairns bowls club last Saturday to defend the McFarlaine Shield.
Eight matches were played with Mossman winning four and west Cairns winning four.
The presidential team of Bob day, Jim Bull and Al Cooper saved the day with a win by 20 shots to see Mossman retain the shield, 137 shots to 141.
Two teams represented Mossman at the Malanda Dairy Festival on Sunday with the team of Cal Wills, Nev Tesch, Joe Girgenti and Rod Parkes finishing in third place, while the team of Graham Bolton, John Sellars, Bob Gard and Doug Pitt came in fifth.
A good result considering there were 14 teams in the field.

The new green seems to be coming along well.
The drainage and subgrade has been completed, the underlay and carpet have arrived, and the carpet layers are expected on the job shortly.
