Twenty-four bowlers headed to west Cairns bowls club last Satur­day to de­fend the McFar­laine Shield.

Eight matches were played with Moss­man win­ning four and west Cairns win­ning four.

The pres­i­den­tial team of Bob day, Jim Bull and Al Cooper saved the day with a win by 20 shots to see Moss­man re­tain the shield, 137 shots to 141.

Two teams rep­re­sented Moss­man at the Ma­landa Dairy Fes­ti­val on Sun­day with the team of Cal Wills, Nev Tesch, Joe Gir­genti and Rod Parkes fin­ish­ing in third place, while the team of Gra­ham Bolton, John Sel­lars, Bob Gard and Doug Pitt came in fifth.

A good re­sult con­sid­er­ing there were 14 teams in the field.

The new green seems to be com­ing along well.

The drainage and sub­grade has been com­pleted, the un­der­lay and car­pet have ar­rived, and the car­pet lay­ers are ex­pected on the job shortly.
