Shaw eyes 100 goals in super Croc season

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT -

CROCS goalscoring machine Matt Shaw has a sniff of the magical 100 majors in a season with three games remaining before the finals.

Shaw again piled on the pain for his opponents Cobras on Saturday with an unstoppable 10-goal effort on top of the dozen he booted last week to take his tally for the season to 82.

The ball magnet shrugged off opponents at will on Saturday and had excellent delivery from Caydn Beetham and Gareth Delaney.

Danny Smith, Brad Cooper and Kane Uebergang also impressed for the Crocs while Luke Bloom celebrated his 50th appearance for the Crocs in style with a dominant effort.

Crocs coach Andy Viola said opposing teams were trying to flood the defensive 50m in an attempt to slow down the scoring onslaught without much success.

“It makes for an ugly game of footy when they do that but we’ve been able to overcome the tactic each time so far,” he said.

The Crocs will team up with local netballers at the Crocpit on Saturday when they take on the second-placed Saints.

Saints will bring two netball sides to Port Douglas to take on local teams at the Port Douglas Sports Complex in a curtainraiser to the main event.

The first netball game starts at midday with the A-Grade clash beginning at 1.30pm, with the Crocs reserves match starting at 1pm and the senior sides doing battle from 3pm.

The Crocs footy club is also raffling a new Toyota Corolla which will be at the IGA on Saturday morning, the Crocpit in the afternoon and then the Sunday markets.
