Hanan joins water group

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

ROBERT Hanan might be forgiven for raising a glass to celebrate his appointment to the Douglas Community Water Reference Group yesterday. “Not Port Douglas water, though,” Mr Hanan said. The new Whyanbeel representative on the water reference group, Mr Hanan said he appreciated the chemical-free water he continues to drink while the residents of Port Douglas and Mossman have chlorine and soon fluoride added to theirs. One of the fiercest critics of Cairns Regional Council’s handling of water in the former Douglas Shire, Mr Hanan will be joining fellow Friends of Douglas Shire spokesman Michael Gabour on the panel. In a totally unrelated move, the next meeting of the reference group was again postponed until October. Council will however decide today which of the three shortlisted consultants will be given the contract to design the longawaited chlorine-free trial for Mossman.
