Aqueous staff ‘eco-warriors’
STAFF at a Port Douglas resort have earned ecowarrior status with their efforts to recycle and protect the environment.
Aqueous on Port won the corporate and social responsibility Property of the Year at the Mantra Group’s Annual Awards. The national award is contested by more than 100 Mantra hotels across Australia.
The staff also impressed with their charitable sides by fundraising for the Red Cross, donating winter woollies and collecting goods for the Salvation Army Christ- mas Giving appeal.
Aqueous on Port manager Jodie Midson said most staff members put in volunteering hours outside of their work commitments.
“Within our resort it’s quite easy because we’re lucky to have a very enthusiastic team,” she said. “The team really want to take part by doing something for charity or the environment.
“There are only nine of us so to actually have received the award and achieved so much as a small team is something to be proud of.”
Ms Midson, who recently faced her fears to do a bungy jump as part of a charity fundraiser, received personal recognition.
She was awarded Regional General Manager of the Year, beating out managers from around the country - including 16 properties in Far North Queensland.
“We have a good strong team and we’re ticking off all the boxes and punching above our weight,” she said.
The Aqueous team are now preparing to get their hands dirty at the Great Northern Clean Up in September.
