RON Schild is showing no signs of slowing down. At 78 years of age, he still runs his pineapple farm in Miallo and was this year elected president of Mossman Rotary. It is the third term Ron has been president of the local Rotary branch, the first being back in 1970. He joined Rotary in 1964 and was also president in 1987-88. Ron started volunteering at the age of 23 when he joined the Junior Farmers mainly as a social outlet as he had come to the Douglas region from South Australia and was isolated on his farm. He then became part of the first local basketball association when it was formed in Mossman, serving as president for 10 years. “I continue to volunteer because of the satisfaction I get out of achieving something worthwhile,” he said.
