Delivering for mums
MARGARET Legge is one of the many volunteers at the Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre. Margaret began volunteering in Melbourne as a member of the ladies auxiliary when her children were little and joined Nippers. In 1994 she joined the VIEW club, a fundraising body which supports the Smith Family charity. Margaret ran the community parenting course at the Neighbourhood Centre and when that finished almost three years ago she started the new mother’s group, a support group for new mothers and their babies which helps women who have no family network in the region. It is also an opportunity for new mums to make friends, exchange experiences, see the health nurse and build their confidence. “I do this work because I love helping others and love watching the babies develop,” she said.
