Community garden a step closer in Port

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

THE land and seed funding have been approved and plans are well advanced to recruit a team of eager green-fingered volunteers who aspire to be experienced in agricultural cultivation and wheelbarrow-pushing.

The Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre’s community garden will take shape across the road from the Neighbourhood Centre in Mowbray St.

A range of vegies will be grown as well as tropical flowers that will be sold to the public to provide a much-needed revenue stream which has slowed to a trickle.

PDNC co-ordinator Mandy Stone is hopeful the community garden will eventually become “a bit of an earner” like the much-loved Nic Nak shed.

Volunteers are needed - but you have to bring your own spade.
