Dragons firing on all cylinders
THE Douglas United Dragons notched up their 11th win from 13 starts with a comprehensive win over Hmong Cairns last Friday night at Cassowary Park.
Just a week after demolishing secondplaced Edge Hill Tigers, the top-placed Dragons swept the floor with the top-four Hmong Cairns team.
The game took on a fast pace early on with both teams looking to press early for goals, but it was the Dragons who converted first through midfielder Scott Gilchrist when he neatly finished a one on one with the visitors’ keeper. The Douglas side steadily gained the upper hand and duly increased their advantage to 5-0 by the halftime break.
The second half brought more of the same effort from the Dragons with Abedini, Tither,Taotong, Gaughran and Duncan Stemp all finding their way on to the score sheet, in the end running away with an emphatic 11-0 scoreline.
Man of the match was Udo Soltwedel for an outstanding game at flanking fullback.
The Dragons will travel to Leichardt this Friday chasing win number 12 knowing they are getting ever closer to the minor premiership and the chance of a home semifinal.
