Khanacross not such a lazy Sunday drive
THE Riverside Leisure Park Lazy Sunday at the Douglas Shire Motor Sports Association was no leisurely Sunday drive.
The dust was flying very early with a junior motorkhana, followed by an open khanacross, with close competitive driving throughout the day.
Bob Errey did try and convince others that it’s not competitive at all, and simply all about fun. Funnily enough he checked his times immediately after every run, and made no secret of his desire to win or to Tony Fox. And just as well it was all about fun only because Bob was unable to achieve either.
Scott Cahill was the eventual winner of the Khanacross, with Foxy four seconds behind in second place, and Bob a further four seconds back in third. The lead changed hands a number of times throughout the day, with all three hitting a witches hat at different times, and it almost became an event to lose by any one of them.
The Junior Motorkhana had Simon Bentley as the clear winner, followed by his sister Elise, with Kara North rounding out the three in third.
Naturally there has been some movement in the club championship standings. Tony Fox moved into top spot in the open division, five points clear of Jaiden Barnes.
Kara North leads the junior motorkhana standings, 15 points ahead of Brydie Short.
The next DSMSA event, the Hoffman Painting Family Weekend, is only three weeks away, on Saturday, September 4 and Sunday, September 5.
In an effort to ensure everyone gets in as many runs as possible, the junior motorkhana will be run on Saturday afternoon, with the open khanacross all day Sunday.
However, members are invited to take part in the FNQMSC twoday event at Herberton on 28 and 29 August as part of the 2010 NQ Khanacross Championship.
