ROUND four of the Port Douglas Hockey Club Champions Trophy competition saw two games of fast-paced and skilful hockey.
The first contest could not separate Black Magic from White Lightning and saw the game finish in a 2-2 draw.
The forward combination of Jack Anderson and Guy Phongsunthorn made swift raids into attack for Magic, supported from the midfield by the clever play of Daisy Hawkes and drive of Suzy Bestwick.
The Black Magic backline combination of Graeme and Liz Stringer repelled frequent Lightning strikes.
Bryce Caltobiano and Luca Hayman-King each scored for White Lightning.
A close match was expected in the second game of the day between the Red Devils and Blue Thunder but the Thunder stormed to a 2-0 lead at halftime. The side went on to win 3 - 1.
Despite a bullet-like goal to Michael Armour and explosive bursts of attack by Liam Edwards, the Devils could not claw their way back into the contest.
The field formation of the Blue Thunder team with Vicki Sparkes in defence, Scott Sparkes, Charlotte Richardson and Matt Stanway controlling the mid-field and Hali Tapim as forward striker all combined with precision to take the victory.
On Sunday, Blue Thunder play Black Magic and Red Devils take on White Lightning from 3.30 pm.
On Saturday, local junior players will play in the Cairns Hockey Association grand final.
Daisy Hawkes and Bella Kurth will represent the Stingers U13A girls side against Souths at 10.30 am. Josh Noonan, Luke Stringer, Jack Anderson and Isaac Heatley will play for the Souths U13 boys team against Saints at 8.00 am.
