Dragons continue to demolish opposition

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT -

The Douglas United Dragons had a dominant win over the Leichardt Lions last Friday night.

The Leichardt side was no match for the Dragons footballers, who crushed the home side 9-0.

Striker Sean Brown got the boys off to a powerful start with a double strike in the 12th and 13th minutes.

He scored six goals in total and now is the League’s top goal scorer.

After Brown got United on the board, the goals kept on coming and they went to the interval holding a 5-0 lead.

Douglas side took awhile to re-establish their structure in a slow start to the second half, before going on to score four more unanswered goals.

The stellar performance came despite a reshuffle to accommodate the absence of key players from the line-up.

Graham Gaughran stepped in for absent central defender Nick Tither and received a Man of the Match award for his efforts.

Scott Gilchrist assumed the role of Captain in in Tither’ absence and mustered the troops well.

Also on the scorers’ sheet were Gilchrist, Matt Smith and Joe Abedini.

A solid win at home this Friday against Stratford will give United an unassailable lead in the premiership race.
