Mudcrabs hit the training track

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT -

THE Mudcrabs are busy sharpening their claws ahead of the 2010/11 Cairns and District cricket season.

After pinching the B Grade grand final last season on first-innings points from Cairns United when the second Sunday was rained out, the Muddies are determined to silence their critics this season.

“I reckon Cairns United might be out for revenge this year,” new captain of the B Grade team Nathan King said. “It should be a good rivalry between us.

Kingy said both B and C grade teams were looking strong at training.

“In B Grade, we’ve got two or three new players who’ve come up from Victoria, and a few more who are locals who’ve decided to have a go.

Steve Doble, the C Grade captain, has also been recruiting, so we should be able to field two competitive teams this year.

“We really want to hit the ground running, so we’ve been training for three weeks now,” he said. “But if there are any players out there who want to come down and train, there’s still room in the team because not everyone’s available every week.”

The Muddies train at the Port Douglas sports complex at 4:30pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, and on Sundays at 12pm.
