Shaw boots 100th goal
STAR Crocs full-forward Matt Shaw crashed through the magical 100goal barrier with 12 majors against the Hawks on Saturday.
Playing at the grand final venue, Cazaly’s in Cairns, Shaw led from the front as he has done all season as the Crocs piled on the misery for Hawks supporters with a 92-point third quarter before the man with the golden boot slotted his 100th goal in the last term.
The Crocs eventually ran away with the match 28.18 (186) to 11.6 (72) against the third-placed Hawks.
Despite the rare personal achievement, Shaw was quick to praise his teammates for reaching 100 goals and is keen to get on with the job and secure a premiership for the Crocs faithful.
“We have a gun backline and a gun midfield so I’m just keeping up my end of the bargain,” he said.
“I’ve always played up the ground so it was a surprise to kick that many in a season.
“It’s just great to see the side back up to where we should be but the hard work starts now.
“We’re undefeated but we need to go through with it and win the premiership.”
Shaw said the club had a similar feel to 2005 when the Crocs last won the premiership and has the arsenal to achieve the same result.
“Everyone has the same goal and we all know the job we have to do,” he said.
