Mossman golfers take on Cairns in Pennant
Mossman’s A-grade golf team faced a close battle at the FNQ Golf Association Pennants Semi Finals against Cairns in Atherton on Sunday.
This is the first Mossman A-grade team to make the semis in almost five years however were unable the boys were unable to make the finals.
The five Mossman A-grade players battled individual matches for 18 against last year’s runners-up, Cairns.
Captain of the Mossman A-grade team Shane Heath won 4-3, 17 year-old Elizah Boon won 7-5, Blain Haywood lost 8-7, Brett Jurie lost 6-5 and 17 year-old Daniel Coulthard lost 4-3.
Mr Heath was very proud of his players and is looking forward to next year’s challenge.
“I was very impressed with everyone’s performances on the day, especially young Elizah who played against Cairn’s number two player Heath Kapor, one of the strongest players in far north Queensland,” he said.
With perfect weather the Mossman and Cairns A-grade teams played a close match, with Cairns beating them by 3-2.
“The boys were disappointed that they didn’t win the Premier Flag on the day however the match was very close and we only needed to win one more game,” he said.
“I think it is a great achievement to come as far as the semis and we are definitely looking forward to another competition next year.”
