Warning to cyclists riding across train track

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - FEEDBACK -

I WANT to say thank you and give a warning to other cyclists.

At 6.30pm on November 1 I was riding home from Mossman to Cooya Beach.

I’d just been to the gym so was feeling pumped and was pushing the pedals hard to keep up the heart rate.

I knew the railway line across the bridge was coming up and thought I had lined it up for a safe crossing, but no, my calculations were "off", the front wheel got caught between road and rail and I ended up skidding across the road.

The next thing I remeber was three young men getting out of their car and offering to help me.

The driver Adam Doctor took me to the hospital and the others stayed with my bike.

Not long after, they bought my bike to the hospital for me.

I would like to send my heartfelt gratitude to Adam and his friends.

I don’t know what I would have done if they hadn’t arrived on the scene as I wasn’t in a very good way. Thank you guys. And I would like to warn and remind other riders to take extra care when crossing that part of the railway line.

The bitumen is very unforgiving.
