Family tennis teams show improvement
PORT Village Medical Centre’s Parent-Child Tournament was a huge success last Saturday at the Port Douglas Tennis Club.
Nearly 20 parent-child pairs playing in all three divisions of beginners, intermediate and advanced levels.
The games were short and designed in robin format, meaning each team played against other teams and the total of games won are the scores.
The beginners group played with light orange balls and showed impressive progression in game skills.
Kae and Katrina Young won the game and runners-up was awarded to Kira and Katie L’Estrange.
The biggest group were the intermediates consisting eight teams.
The intermediates produced some close matches, and long rallies of a very high standard were played.
The winners were Zach/ Earl Osborne. The final game between Connor Berzinski/June Hall and Jai/Sharon Miller was the decider for the runner-up place. Brianna/Joan Ber- zinski started on 12 game point the same as Jai/ Sharon Miller.
After deducting the games lost Jai/Sharon Miller had a better average and became the runnersup in this division.
Simon/Edwina Kramer and Nick/Debbie Cooper played very professionally with some good rallies.
Without any loss Kiani/Joan Berzinski won the advanced group, runners-up Laura/Helen Coulthard.
The trophies were proudly sponsored by Port Village Medical Centre and were big fruit boxes and a certificate.
Next events in November and December at the Port Douglas Tennis Club will be two squad matches against Gordonvale and Julatten. For more information call Herold Prins Tennis Coaching on 4099 1982.
