Free map for Daintree coast

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

THE new and improved “Free Daintree Coast Map” will be distributed across the region this week to promote the north side of the Daintree River to tourists.

A total of 100,000 maps were printed and are available on the Morgan Freeman Port Douglas Board and Cairns Small Board.

Mason’s Tours owner Lawrence Mason has been producing and distributing the map since 2002.

“We are trying to bring more visitors to the Daintree and by producing a free map it enables people who visit the region to easily find us and our businesses,” he said.

The map shows all businesses north of the Daintree River and is printed on plain paper so information centres can easily highlight areas or routes on the map.

It features a directory for all businesses by category with a number for ease of reference.

“Last year was the worst year we have had since the 1980s due to the global financial crisis so we are hoping that by advertising the area the number of visitors will increase again by April,” he said.

One of the key features to the new map is highlighting the completion of the Cooper Creek Causeway.

“The Cooper Creek high level causeway is something we really wanted to highlight because it was one of the reasons a lot of tourists weren’t visiting the Daintree during wet season, with the fear of being caught in the floods,” he said.

Any businesses interested in distributing the maps can call Morgan Freeman on 4031 3611 or Mason’s Tours on 4098 0070.
