Jacob joins dozens of local kids excited to start school

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - BACK TO SCHOOL -

FIVE-YEAR-OLD Jacob Pedersen is among the dozens of schoolchildren throughout the district to pack lunches, pull on backpacks and head off to attend their first ever school day on January 24.

His proud parents, Lars and Finula, say Jacob is champing at the bit to join his young friends from day care and new classmates at prep at Port Douglas State School.

Equipped with a new red bicycle (a birthday present) and a special Toy Story backpack from his granny in Ireland, the youngster will certainly look the part when he arrives for his big first day.

With school just around the block from his home, Jacob won’t have far to ride his bike.

“It will be very convenient to have the school around the corner from us,” says mum, Finula.

“Jacob loves his books and is excited about learning to read and write. The first thing he asked when we went to the school last year is, ’Is there a library, mummy?’”
