Golfers defy wet weather to tackle course
THE Monthly Medal Mug attracted local golfers at the Mossman Golf Club despite the wet weather which forced players to swing only nine holes as the rain severely affected the course.
A lack of golfers also affected the Monthly Medal competition with a lot as a lot of local players went on holiday over the Christmas and New Year break.
Kerry Johnstone kicked off his new year winning the first Tuesday monthly medal for the year with a 67 nett and Brendan Wood was second with 69.
Nearest the pins were Wayne Dowell on 8 and Brett Deuble on 10 and 17.
With very few ladies willing to play in the rain, the competition only had eight players for Thursday.
Ladies monthly medal for January went to Gayle Healey who carded and nett 74 to win by two shots to Trevene Page on 76. Julie Hooker won nearest the pin on 8 and Kerri Williams won 17.
On Saturday Peter Hornsby shot a nett 66 which included six birdies to win the Men’s monthly medal after a count back to Art Howard.
Brett Jurie won A Grade gross with 76, Dennis Blake won B Grade with 84 and Brendan Wood won C Grade with 88.
Charlie Kadic won the A Grade nett with 80, Kerry Johnstone won B Grade with 71 and Phil Dunnicliffe won C Grade with 70.
Nearest the pins were Dunnicliffe on 8, Peter Hornsby on 10 and Ian Steley on 17.
In the ladies medal, Jenny Rowell won narrowly with nett 74 ahead of Shona Barbour with nett 75. Pris Freeman won the only nearest the pin on the 8th.
On Sunday a small field played a Stableford competition which was won by the in form Art Howard with 39 points.
Wayne Baxter was second with 36 points. Nearest the pins were John Cameron on 17 and Rick Weimar on 8.
All of the monthly medal winners will compete at the end of the year.
