Golfers defy wet weather to tackle course

THE Monthly Medal Mug at­tracted lo­cal golfers at the Moss­man Golf Club de­spite the wet weather which forced play­ers to swing only nine holes as the rain se­verely af­fected the course.

A lack of golfers also af­fected the Monthly Medal com­pe­ti­tion with a lot as a lot of lo­cal play­ers went on hol­i­day over the Christ­mas and New Year break.

Kerry John­stone kicked off his new year win­ning the first Tues­day monthly medal for the year with a 67 nett and Bren­dan Wood was sec­ond with 69.

Near­est the pins were Wayne Dowell on 8 and Brett Deu­ble on 10 and 17.

With very few ladies will­ing to play in the rain, the com­pe­ti­tion only had eight play­ers for Thurs­day.

Ladies monthly medal for Jan­uary went to Gayle Healey who carded and nett 74 to win by two shots to Trevene Page on 76. Julie Hooker won near­est the pin on 8 and Kerri Wil­liams won 17.

On Satur­day Peter Hornsby shot a nett 66 which in­cluded six birdies to win the Men’s monthly medal af­ter a count back to Art Howard.

Brett Jurie won A Grade gross with 76, Den­nis Blake won B Grade with 84 and Bren­dan Wood won C Grade with 88.

Char­lie Kadic won the A Grade nett with 80, Kerry John­stone won B Grade with 71 and Phil Dun­ni­cliffe won C Grade with 70.

Near­est the pins were Dun­ni­cliffe on 8, Peter Hornsby on 10 and Ian Ste­ley on 17.

In the ladies medal, Jenny Row­ell won nar­rowly with nett 74 ahead of Shona Bar­bour with nett 75. Pris Free­man won the only near­est the pin on the 8th.

On Sun­day a small field played a Stable­ford com­pe­ti­tion which was won by the in form Art Howard with 39 points.

Wayne Bax­ter was sec­ond with 36 points. Near­est the pins were John Cameron on 17 and Rick Weimar on 8.

All of the monthly medal win­ners will com­pete at the end of the year.
