Funny fellas to hit stage

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - FLOOD CRISIS -

NOTHING beats a good Aussie joke on Australia Day and Evan “Buddah” Hocking is warming up for a laugh-fest.

Buddah - known for his inspirational leadership as captain of the Port Douglas Crocs and love of slipping on a pair of stilettos for a good cause - is dusting off some of his best, and worst, one-liners as the host of an open mic comedy session at the Court House Hotel next Wednesday.

He has conned a few budding comedians to share their sense of humour on stage and hopes their brave decision to front the audience encourages others to give it a go on the day.

“I think it will be a pretty good day for everyone, they will have a few beers and a few laughs,” Mr Hocking said.

“There’s not many places in this region where members of the community can take part in an open mic event so this is a great opportunity for any locals who wouldn’t mind giving it a go.

“There is no real theme to it, you just got to stand up and talk for about 2-5 minutes to give people a laugh.”

The open mic event will kick off in the beer garden at 2pm and Buddah is hoping to make it the first of many.

Anyone interested in trying their luck at the comedy caper is urged to call Buddah on 0438 005 146. Your routine can be as simple as a funny story.
