Gymnastics club to host super sports
GYMNASTS from the Mossman and District Gymnastics Club are welcoming new students at the Super Sports Day promotion event next month.
The gymnasts will be putting on a display along with a “come and try” activity at the Mossman Indoor Sports Centre on Sunday, February 6.
The Mossman and District Gymnasts Club are a growing, not-for-profit organisation who plays an active role in the community in its efforts to promote a healthy environment to children.
Spokeswoman Erin Frizelle encourages both boys and girls to sign up for 2011.
“Fitness, flexibility, strength, endurance and self esteem are the rewards to be obtained by becoming a member of this club,” she said.
“Gymnasts are also given regular opportunities to compete at various competitions throughout the region, whilst also being trained to perform at community events.”
Children can enrol as young as one to four years in the popular ’Kindergym’ program before reaching general gym competing levels in the Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastic competitions.
Last year the club participated in four competitions in Atherton and Mareeba along with the Queensland State Championship in Brisbane.
“In Brisbane one of our gymnasts placed fifth overall with the regional team, an intraclub competition,” she said.
Gymnasts also had a cartwheel-athon fundraiser, displays at the Port Douglas Primary School and performed at the Neighbourhood Centre’s 21st birthday celebrations.
“Their final Christmas Display and Presentation Night was spectacular, with acrobatics, costume, dance, music, and apparatus demonstrations,” Mrs Frizelle said.
“It was an entire, one hour production, of non-stop entertainment for the whole community to enjoy.”
Parents should be quick to enrol their children early to secure a place in the classes and will be able to register on Saturday, January 29, from 9:00am to 11:00am at the Mossman Indoor Sports Centre, Front Street, opposite Woolworths.
Boys are particularly encouraged to enrol this year as the club will be extending their boys program, giving the MAG Levels 1 to 3 students the opportunity to participate in our conditioning program on Tuesdays.
