Flood appeal generosity

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

REVIVING the atmosphere of “Sunday sessions of old”, the Port Douglas community came together to party hard in perfect conditions at the Yacht Club’s Floodstock charity bash. More than $15,000 was raised to help Queensland’s flood victims to get back on their feet as 600 revellers turned out in force to support the event. With local musos donating their performances and proceeds from the bar and kitchen going to the cause, the crowd had no excuse not to get into the spirit. Organisers Gregg Buchanan and Richard Stapleton admit to being “blown away” by the response with prizes still being dropped off as guests started to arrive on Sunday afternoon. “It was incredible,” Mr Stapleton said. “It never ceases to amaze me, the generosity of the locals of this town. Everyone pitched in and it was awesome.” Saturday’s Four Mile Beach walk and auction for the flood appeal raised an additional $5000.
