New Croc in town to help win 2011 crown
THERE’S a new Croc in town.
Mitch Duff, 22, has travelled from Victoria to join the Port Douglas Crocs AFL team and he’s keen for a big season.
The enthusiastic AFL player and barman has always loved footy and is determined to improve his skills and fitness while in Port Douglas. “I absolutely love footy,” he said. “Where I was playing in back at home it was always wet and raining so it is good to get away from the awful weather and enjoy the tropics.
“I moved to Port Douglas in September last year knowing a few of my old football mates were living here and thought it would be a good opportunity to have a fresh start in a regional area.
“I used to play for the Red Hill Football Club in Victoria, in a rep team and for my school.
“I feel there are a lot of opportunities for me up here.”
Mr Duff enjoys playing as a midfielder and hopes to earn his place in the top grade during pre-season training.
“The Crocs are a great bunch of boys,” he said.
“We have just started pre-season training so I am not too sure where I will be placed yet.
“I hope to earn a mid field position but I will need to prove that I am worthy of it.”
Duff is confident his stay in Port Douglas will last until at least next year and plans to spend this season improving his football and getting fit at the gym.
“I’ve played football since I was a little kid - pretty much since I could walk,” he said.
“It has become an important part of my life and without it I think I would feel unbalanced.
“I enjoy being healthy, fit and social so it is great to be playing with the Crocs and getting ready for a great season.”
New players are welcome to join the Crocs for pre-season fitness training at the Port Douglas Sports Complex from 5.30pm on Mondays and Wednesdays.
