I’ve seen subcontractors who would rather sit on their arse than do the work at lower rates
in order to get the jobs.
“I am currently negotiating with local tradesmen and about half of them are happy with the rates and others say to me that they wouldn’t get out of bed for that sort of money.”
Mr Matthews said local tradesmen may be working harder now and getting a lot less money than a few years ago because of the nature of our industry.
“If you were a local builder in the boom times you could build 40 houses a year and make good money because your profit margins are higher due to supply and demand,” he said.
“Two years later you’re only
