“I am cur­rently ne­go­ti­at­ing with lo­cal trades­men and about half of them are happy with the rates and oth­ers say to me that they wouldn’t get out of bed for that sort of money.”

Mr Matthews said lo­cal trades­men may be work­ing harder now and get­ting a lot less money than a few years ago be­cause of the na­ture of our in­dus­try.

“If you were a lo­cal builder in the boom times you could build 40 houses a year and make good money be­cause your profit mar­gins are higher due to sup­ply and de­mand,” he said.
