Toastmasters Club folds

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - FEEDBACK -

REGRETTABLY, the Toastmasters Club of Port Douglas had its final meeting last week after five years of operation.

The club was established in Port Douglas in May, 2005, as part of the worldwide Toastmaster organisation, founded in America in 1924 by Ralph Smedley.

The aim of the organisation is to help members improve their skills in public speaking, listening and communication.

It has a worldwide membership of over 260,000.

Our club was given every assistance by members of Cairns, Marlin Coast, Mareeba and Mt Sheridan Clubs but unfortunately could not keep the minimum number of members needed to continue in Port Douglas.

The Four Mile Tavern was very co-operative in providing a meeting room at no charge.

It is to be hoped that a Toastmasters Club may be re-established in the Mossman-Port Douglas area in the not too distant future.
