Sharks to field four teams in first game
THE Mossman Port Douglas Sharks will field a side in four grades for the opening of the CDRL season when they clash with Edmonton on Sunday.
There were fears only last week the club may have to fold due to a lack of numbers but the Sharks managed to sign up a few more Under-18 players and struck a deal with Hopevale to field a reserve grade side in Sharks colours.
Sharks president Keith Pitt said the Hopevale outfit will represent the Sharks to ensure there are enough players to contest the reserve grade competition.
For the first time in several seasons, the Sharks will also have a C-grade side consisting of players who want a run on the paddock without the heavy contact of the top grades or who want to try and force their way into the first grade team.
“We will be competitive but the club is trying to introduce a new culture to the Sharks and if you don’t turn up to training you won’t be playing first grade, it’s as simple as that,” Pitt said.
“Our coach Trevor Cobb has picked a first grade team that’s loyal to him and to our emphasis on turning up to training.
“If anyone wants to play for us, all they have to do is turn up to training on Tuesdays and Thursdays with the right attitude.”
The Sharks train at Mossman Showgrounds on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm and anyone interested in joining the club can either turn up to training or call president Keith Pitt on 0439 879 025.
