Great reason for kids’ play
YOUNGSTERS living in Mossman no longer need to stay at home on a Friday with a new community playgroup opening tomorrow.
The free Mossman Community Centre playgroup was funded by Playgroup Queensland and will be the only playgroup available to local mothers, fathers, grandparents and carers on a Friday.
Children under the age of five and parents will be able to use the centre for “fun and games” to interact with other families within the community.
Playgroup coordinator El George would like to welcome families within the community to come along and have some fun.
“Kids can look forward to interacting with other children, learning through play, playing with play dough, in our sandpit and with educational toys,” she said.
“Our centre is fully airconditioned and children will be able to play outdoor water activities during the summer months.
“We would like to encourage families who don’t usually go to playgroups to come along and meet some of the local parents.
“They can gain lots of benefits from sharing their experiences.”
Outdoor play equipment was kindly donated by the Port Douglas Combined Club and a majority of the toys were donated by members of the community.
Community development officer Jill Bradley is looking forward to the playgroup opening.
“The association has been talking about opening a playgroup and the opportunity came up through the Springboard program,” she said.
“Our playgroup will allow parents and children to get out of the house, make new friends, share experiences, play and learn and help run playgroup.”
The playgroup will be open to the community between 9.30am and 11.30am on March 11 at the Mossman Community Centre.
