Port ‘o’ Call cleans up with judges
PORT ’o’ Call Lodge in Port Douglas has picked up another prestigious tourism award.
The local eco-friendly hostel was judged the most eco-friendly accommodation in Oceania by users of the popular booking website hostelbookers.com.
The award is voted by travellers who used the site to book their accommodation.
Ryan Moore, who owns and manages the lodge with his wife Janine, said it was a pleasant surprise to win the award.
“It’s always good to know we’re hitting the right note with customers,” he said.
“We’ve got a good crew, and everyone who stays here seems to appreciate that.”
Travellers who reviewed the lodge on the website have consistently praised the staff for their friendliness and helpfulness, along with the facilities at the lodge.
Mr Moore said there was a lot more competition among eco-friendly backpackers in recent years.
“There’s certainly a lot more around than there were five years ago,” he said.
Port ’o’ Call makes extensive use of alternative energy, including wind turbines, solar hot water and energy-efficient lighting, and runs a comprehensive recycling system.
