Port artist opens third solo show

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

YOSHIKO Kirby is spreading her artistic wings with her third solo exhibition.

The Port Douglas artist opened Shuffling Cards on a Full Moon Night at the Tablelands Regional Gallery last Friday.

Yoshiko said she was still developing as an artist.

“I don’t always know where the inspiration comes from,” she said.

“I might be reading a book when an image pops into my head.

“It usually has absolutely nothing to do with what I am doing, and the meaning of the painting often doesn’t become clear until much later.”

Yoshiko got her first taste of art at the Douglas Arts Base in Mossman.

It was her participation in a DAB exhibition in 2009 which led to this opportunity for a solo exhibition at the new regional gallery in Atherton.

“I won a prize at that exhibition, and the director of the regional gallery saw my work and asked me to mount a solo exhibition,” she said.

The exhibition continues until April 3, Tuesday - Saturday 10am - 4pm and Sundays 10am - 2pm.
