Cultural Centre cringe

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - FEEDBACK -

AFTER attending the first Cairns Cultural Precinct meeting of 2011, you may as well delete the word proposed from the project description.

Like many others struggling to make ends meat and as a ratepayer, I am appalled at the non-existent consultation of the general community with regards to this precinct.

To borrow the words of Macca from radio station 4CA: “We were ambushed big time.”

The reality is the machinations of this precinct have been in progress since 2008, but it wasn’t until June 2010 the unsuspecting ratepayers were made aware that we would be blessed with providing one-third of the funding.

For those as gravely concerned as I, I will attempt to paint a picture of the latest precinct meeting open to the public, held on February 16.

The mayor, CEO, all councillors and nameless council officers were present.
