Nude man just natural: police
POLICE have caught up with the mysterious naked man spotted exposing himself on Four Mile Beach recently - but it appears he may not be the only one who has been baring all.
Several beachgoers have complained of a naked man walking along the popular family beach in recent months and police even gave chase on one occasion.
Senior Constable Alan Dempsey said a person of interest was identified following an article in last week’s Gazette, but further inquiries have led police to suspect there may be more naked beach walkers in our midst.
“Following the report from last week we received positive feedback from the community with people calling in to provide information about the man,” he said.
“From this the police were able to identify the man and speak to him.
“He has not been charged and was unaware that it was an offence to be naked in public and claims to be a naturalist.
“He now knows that it is not legal to walk about naked on the beach - no matter what his beliefs are it is wilful exposure.
“From further inquiries from the public police now suspect that there may be another man exposing himself along the beach. “
The other nudist has been described as in his 30s, with dark hair, tanned skin and a muscular build. Anyone who sees a naked man around the beach is urged to contact the Port Douglas police on 4087 1999.
