Bowls Club cleans up at awards night
THE Mossman Memorial Bowls Club scooped four prestigious IGT and Clubs Queensland awards for excellence at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre last week.
The local club won the IGT best club in a rural community, best bowls club venue (small club), special achievement award for responsible gambling and - for the second year running - the best community service by a licensed club (small club) award.
Manager Kevin Rynne collected the awards in front of 1400 guests and paid tribute to his team for earning nominations in nine categories.
“It is really a compliment to the team who work at the bowls club for their hard work and attitude,” he said.
“The Mossman Bowls Club staffs are very friendly and the members are welcoming so it is great to see them rewarded for their efforts.
“Our facilities here at the club are among the best for a small club in the state and I think people are realising if they patronise their local club, the profits go back into the community.”
Clubs Queensland president Don Seccombe said more than ever our community clubs need something to celebrate.
“Struggling or not, our community clubs are still out there every day, holding their nerve, and making a difference by providing affordable junior sport, entertainment, facilities, support for our returned service men and women, equipment, and activities for people to stay fit in body and mind,” he said.
