Port Douglas CWA branch celebrates historic honour
THE Port Douglas branch of the Country Women’s Association was also honoured at the recent Women of Douglas unveiling.
The Gazette reported earlier this month that the Mossman branch of the CWA was one of six local organisations or inspirational women to have a room at the Port Douglas Community Hall named in their honour.
The Port Douglas CWA branch - which has been a part of the community for more than 80 years - was honoured alongside the Mossman branch at the unveiling. Port Douglas CWA spokeswoman Helen Cooper said it was a privilege for the branch to be recognised for its community efforts and encouraged more local women to join the club.
“We have regular social activities and a games afternoon every Friday from 1-4pm and we welcome new members,” she said.
