Sharkettes to launch new season with official jersey presentation
SPONSORS, supporters and players of the Mossman Sharkettes will attend the official jersey presentation this week.
For the last year the local women’s rugby league team have been sponsored by local business in the community including Demi View Motel, Mojo’s Bar and Grill, Bolt Burchill Tranter Lawyers and MP Jason O’Brien.
Together they have organised rugby jerseys, shorts and socks which will be presented to the girls on Monday night.
Their new team coach, Bronson Ryan, has been training the girls for the last three weeks and is looking forward exciting season with new uniforms as a bonus.
“I am a primary school teacher and rugby league coach for the Sharkettes and senior Sharks teams,” he said. “I am looking forward to attending the presentation night it will be a great opportunity for the girls to be recognised as a team and it also gives them a chance to meet and thank their sponsors.
“The girls are training very hard and we are all looking forward to a very exciting season.”
Sharkettes spokesperson Kraig Byrne said the presentation night is an opportunity for the players to meet and thank their sponsors for their uniforms.
“The girls will be presented with a jersey, shorts and socks thanks to the support from their sponsors,” he said. “The girls will also be greeting a guest speaker from the Cancer Council Foundation who will address the team on Women’s Health and issues relating to breast cancer and fundraising strategies for Pink Ribbon Day.
“The girls have organised to do some fundraising every Friday at local football matches in Cairns for Pink Ribbon Day.
“The girls were very interested in giving back to the community as a gesture of thanks for the support they have received from local businesses by raising money for a worthy course.
“Rachel and I are impressed that the team is thankful and gracious for their jerseys, shorts and socks and are keen to put something back into the community by fundraising for Prink Ribbon Day.”
Girls who are interested in joining or supporting the Sharkettes are welcome to attend the presentation night and sign on.
“We are going to use the night to sign on some more players who are considering pulling on the boots and running on the field,” Mr Byrne said.
The presentation will be held at the Sharks clubhouse at the Mossman Showgrounds on Monday 28 from 6pm to 8pm. Those who are interested in attending need to RSVP to Kraig Byrne on 0437 088 007.
