Shar­kettes to launch new sea­son with of­fi­cial jer­sey pre­sen­ta­tion

SPON­SORS, sup­port­ers and play­ers of the Moss­man Shar­kettes will at­tend the of­fi­cial jer­sey pre­sen­ta­tion this week.

For the last year the lo­cal women’s rugby league team have been spon­sored by lo­cal busi­ness in the com­mu­nity in­clud­ing Demi View Mo­tel, Mojo’s Bar and Grill, Bolt Burchill Tran­ter Lawyers and MP Ja­son O’Brien.

To­gether they have or­gan­ised rugby jer­seys, shorts and socks which will be pre­sented to the girls on Mon­day night.

Their new team coach, Bron­son Ryan, has been train­ing the girls for the last three weeks and is look­ing for­ward ex­cit­ing sea­son with new uni­forms as a bonus.

“I am a pri­mary school teacher and rugby league coach for the Shar­kettes and se­nior Sharks teams,” he said. “I am look­ing for­ward to at­tend­ing the pre­sen­ta­tion night it will be a great op­por­tu­nity for the girls to be recog­nised as a team and it also gives them a chance to meet and thank their spon­sors.

“The girls are train­ing very hard and we are all look­ing for­ward to a very ex­cit­ing sea­son.”

Shar­kettes spokesper­son Kraig Byrne said the pre­sen­ta­tion night is an op­por­tu­nity for the play­ers to meet and thank their spon­sors for their uni­forms.

“The girls will be pre­sented with a jer­sey, shorts and socks thanks to the sup­port from their spon­sors,” he said. “The girls will also be greeting a guest speaker from the Cancer Coun­cil Foun­da­tion who will ad­dress the team on Women’s Health and is­sues re­lat­ing to breast cancer and fundrais­ing strate­gies for Pink Rib­bon Day.

“The girls have or­gan­ised to do some fundrais­ing ev­ery Fri­day at lo­cal foot­ball matches in Cairns for Pink Rib­bon Day.

“The girls were very in­ter­ested in giv­ing back to the com­mu­nity as a ges­ture of thanks for the sup­port they have re­ceived from lo­cal busi­nesses by rais­ing money for a wor­thy course.

“Rachel and I are im­pressed that the team is thank­ful and gra­cious for their jer­seys, shorts and socks and are keen to put some­thing back into the com­mu­nity by fundrais­ing for Prink Rib­bon Day.”

Girls who are in­ter­ested in join­ing or sup­port­ing the Shar­kettes are wel­come to at­tend the pre­sen­ta­tion night and sign on.

“We are go­ing to use the night to sign on some more play­ers who are con­sid­er­ing pulling on the boots and run­ning on the field,” Mr Byrne said.

The pre­sen­ta­tion will be held at the Sharks club­house at the Moss­man Show­grounds on Mon­day 28 from 6pm to 8pm. Those who are in­ter­ested in at­tend­ing need to RSVP to Kraig Byrne on 0437 088 007.
