Queensland Government protected the species in 2004.

“I am a strong supporter of protecting these magnificent fish. The wrasse has been seized and will be sent to James Cook University for fisheries research purposes.

“A Fisheries Infringement Notice (FIN) to the amount of $800 will be issued this week to the alleged offender.”

Fisheries Minister Craig Wallace strongly supports the laws to protect these magnificent fish.

“I strongly back the Boating and Fisheries Patrol officers who do an excellent job of protecting vulnerable species,” he said.

“We want to protect these fish so our children and grandchildren can see them.

“Our pristine northern waters also attract people from all over the world because we have these laws.”
