Lagoon site ‘not ideal’

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - FEEDBACK -

THE Port Douglas Waterfront Master Plan has certainly come a long way since we decided to finalise the report with the project advisory group in September 2009.

Now managed by Cairns Regional Council and the new consultant Strategic Leisure Group, the taxpayer’s million-dollar previous consultation has been removed by SLG in a blink of an eye, with no one in the community being asked for their opinion on this new site.

The two old sites were to be near Rex Smeal Park, and behind the surf club.

Where did the new site come from, and more importantly who in their right minds would put a swimming pool with bikini-clad bathers right beside a church?

Oh yes, funeral services are not to be more important than those swimming, because reverence for the dead just went away with the introduction of this miserly-sized pool smacked up between a toilet block and a church. Who is responsible for creating such a monster of a design and what has happened to our community representatives on the advisory committee, or have they been silenced?

Unless you ask the community for their view before you make decisions, you are to blame for putting the cart before the horse.

When will you learn not to dupe the people of Port Douglas?
