Local library turns one
IT WILL be party time at the Port Douglas Library Kiosk this Friday, when staff and patrons celebrate the service’s first birthday. The library kiosk was established in February 2010 to replace the decommissioned mobile library and provides residents of Port Douglas with full access to the Cairns Regional Council’s library catalogue, as well as photocopying and computer use. “This service has ensured that residents of Port Douglas don’t miss out on all the benefits of a permanent library service,” Mayor Val Schier said. Division 10 Councillor Julia Leu said she had received extremely positive feedback since the kiosk service was established. “It has a pleasant ambience and the library team are incredibly helpful,” Cr Leu said. “They have done a fantastic job in making it a hub of activity for the Port Douglas community.” A birthday celebration will be held at the library kiosk this Friday, April 1, from 10am. “Dewey”, the library mascot will attend and members of the public are invited to join the party. The library kiosk is located at the Port Douglas Community Hall, 13-29 Mowbray Street, Port Douglas, and is open on Tuesdays 1-5pm, Thursdays 9am-1pm and Fridays 9am-1pm. Contact the kiosk on 4099 9497 or through the Mossman Library on 4099 9496.
