Go slow at Wonga

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

DIVISION 10 councillor Julia Leu welcomed this week’s announcement that the speed limit along the Mossman-Daintree Road near Wonga Beach had been lowered from 100km/h to 80km/h. “At a community meeting at Wonga Beach late last year, residents raised the issue of the speed limit, and I contacted Jason O’Brien about it,” Ms Leu said. “After I witnessed a horrific crash at the intersection recently, I contacted him again. The need to reduce the speed limit in this locality is overdue, particularly with the new set of shops next to the Wonga Beach servo.” Cook MP Jason O’Brien said the department of main roads would continue to monitor the road, to see if any further engineering works are required. The new speed limit, of 80 km/h in both directions between Rocky Point and Wonga Beach Road, comes into force today.
